June 10-12, 2010: Smith & Fong and Richlite to Exhibit at AIA Expo2010 in Miami Beach

January 20, 2010:  Alterna to Provide AIA CEU Course on Bamboo at USGBC Miami Branch Meeting

Visit the Website. At the January 2010 monthly member meeting of the Miami-Dade and Keys Branch of the South Florida Chapter of the USGBC, Nick Gunia, LEED AP, and President of Alterna Corp., will present a program entitled "Bamboo in a Green Design Environment.” This program is registered with the AIA Continuing Education Systems (CES) for continuing professional education. Credit earned on completion of this program will be reported to CES for AIA members. Certificates of completion for non-AIA members are available upon request.
After completion of this educational program on bamboo, participants will be able to:

1) Develop an understanding of growing, harvesting and manufacturing with bamboo;
2) Recognize the process that contributes to a quality bamboo product;
3) Understand how bamboo from different manufacturers may contribute to a variety of LEED credits in a certified building; and
4) Write CSI standard specifications to ensure the quality and sustainability of bamboo used in the project.

August 11th – 14th:   FAHRO, Destin, FL.

Alterna Corp is pleased to announce that they will be exhibiting at the Florida Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials (FAHRO) 2009 Annual Convention and Trade Show scheduled to take place August 11-14th at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida. Alterna will be exhibiting their water conservation products and will highlight products like the Caroma Sydney Smart, the most water efficient toilet in the world. The Sydney Smart only uses 0.8 gallons per flush on the half flush and 1.28 gallons per flush on the full flush. According to Alterna Vice President Mark Gunia, “Caroma’s dual flush toilets have helped Florida’s Housing Authorities conserve water, be more sustainable and save money on water bills. We look forward to demonstrating these savings and meeting new housing authorities at the FAHRO show.”

July 30 – August 2:  Alterna to Exhibit at the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC)/GreenTrends Show and Conference

Visit the National Green Building Conference Website. Alterna is pleased to announce that it will be exhibiting at the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC)/GreenTrends exposition and conference at Orange County’s Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The SEBC is the South’s largest regional building industry trade exposition and educational event. Now in its 30th year, the SEBC is presented by the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA, www.fhba.com) while GreenTrends is the annual trade show and conference of the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC, www.floridagreenbuilding.org). This year’s theme is "Knowledge Is Power" and reflects the SEBC/GreenTrends’ commitment to present the very best in education during a challenging time when everyone in the construction industry must be at their professional best.

June 30:  Caroma to Sponsor USGBC Seminar on Miami-Dade Water Conservation Ordinance

Miami-Dade County recently passed an important ordinance that will require high efficiency plumbing fixtures for all new construction, both residential and commercial. On June 30th, the Miami Branch of the South Florida Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will be offering a seminar about the implications of the ordinance. The seminar is highly recommended for architects, designers, engineers, contractors, plumbing industry professionals and anyone interested in water conservation. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about the details of the ordinance from Maribel Balbin, the Director of Water Conservation for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.
